Problems adding custom sounds using Mani...FIXED!
#1
I cannot seem to get custom sounds added properly...have read through the various posts, and the sounds just won't play. I add a custom .wav file into the css/serverip/cstrike/sound folder (have tried several of the sound subfolders in case that makes a difference, but it doesn't) using ftp program....the sound files appear to be uploaded on to the server correctly. I have then modified css/serverip/cstrike/cfg/mani_admin_plugin/soundlist.txt as described in mani documentation...

The sounds show up in the in-game sound menu, but when played, nothing happens and the following error shows up in console:
" Failed to load sound "misc/what_is_that.wav", file probably missing from disk/repository "

When the server changes map, you can see it try to download the .wav file, but I don't think it actually d/ls it.

I checked to be sure that mani_sounds_auto_download is set to 1 in the mani .cfg file....

and in cvar sv_allowdownloads is set to 1 also.

What am I missing here?

BTW, thanks for the help! This site looks great!

while looking at that line i think it is searching in cstrike/misc instead of cstrike/sound/misc

Hmmmm.....I will give that a try. I modified soundlist.txt based on the commands for the sounds that come with the mani software...but maybe for custom sounds I need to explicitly type out the whole directory...will post back here if it works.

Thanks!

I think by default it looks for sounds in the sounds directory. (not quite sure though) but i do know that sometimes the mani sounds take forever to start working, so just conect a couple times, and be sure you restart the server after you update the soundlist.txt file.

making that adjustment did not fix the problem....now it does not even attempt to load the sound, and the sound does not appear in the mani in-game sound menu...no longer gives an error, but at least before it recognized that I was trying to load a custom sound...
any other ideas out there? I know this is not that complicated...Sad

Restarting the server did not make any difference...I still get the same error

"misc/what_is_that.wav", file probably missing from disk/repository "

any other thoughts?

So I should just leave the files as they are, and see if they suddenly start working?

well if when you changed it, it made it worse, i would say just try re-connecting to the server, and changing map. I remember when I tried to add sounds a long time ago, they took awhile to work, I have no idea why, they just did. Then randomly after a couple map changes, they started to work. So maybe join the server, and change map?

Also theres a cvar in the mani_server.cfg file that can disable the download of sounds, you might want to be sure you didn't do that, but if you haven't changed anything, they download by default im pretty sure.

are there any other files I should double check?

pfft, thats whay i get for not fully reading everything..

What you could do though, is add the files to the downloads.txt file, so that it will download the files anyways. cuz the server is trying to play them.. that error you posted is actually a client error, saying that you don't have the file. so try adding the file to the downloads.txt file (you would have to have /sound at the beginning though) restart the server, connect and hope you download the files Toungue

skeletor, thanks so much for taking an interest in this problem....still not working though.

I added the sound file to the downloads.txt as suggested...let me make sure of what I typed so tell me if it looks okay:

"what_is_that" "sound/misc/what_is_that.wav" I wasn't sure if I needed the key at the beginning or not, but I stuck it in there.

I also made sure the sounds were listed in the soundlist.txt document as well so I could access them from the mani menu...they were there, but still nothing played...and got the same error message in console.
Now, when I connected to the server, it looked like it quickly downloaded the file one time, then tried to do it a second time, and this is where it hung up...so I think it d/l'd it once for the downloads.txt file (and that worked) and the second time it is trying to do it for the soundslist.txt file and not working...
this is really frustrating, b/c I know so many servers have sustom sounds, it should b easy to do, right? I thought this would be a 5 minute job, and it is taking days...arg!!!Sad

This is what is typed into my soundslist.txt file:
"What is that" misc/what_is_that.wav

THe sounds are in that location...but now since I have force the client to d/l it into a different location, should I change the text in the soundslist.txt file? If so, how?

the files shouldn't download twice.. do the files actually download right the first time? Cuz if if downloads right the first time, then the second time around, it should see the file, and not try to download the file. the same as once you join a server, download a cagillion sounds.. if you connect again you don't have to download them again (if they all downloaded right)
