i am too lazy to watch the video to validate the results, but . . .

in the context of software, download speed has to do with the tcp/ip stack and nic driver, not the browser. i have never noticed any significant speed variation in many years of surfing the web. i suspect there is some uncontrolled variable at work here.

the browser could affect how quickly pages or content are processed and displayed, but generally not pure download speed.

was the test done on an otherwise idle lan, and not the internet? did the pc have any other software running?

The PC was done on a Wireless network about 2 feet away from router, and had no programs running

so you did a pc-to-pc transfer between two computers on the same wireless network . . . and the pcs had absolutely nothing unecessary running in the background and got these results? something is amiss here.

ok i got off my butt and watched part of the video. the files were downloaded from the internet, which invalidates the results. you can't have uncontrolled variables and accurately interpret data. if you did the test in a completely controlled enviroment, then we'd have something to work with.

sorry but how was this not a controlled environment, it was a new install of XP on a new laptop on a wireless network with no other background processes using the internet. I did the download of the SAME file from the SAME server.

I'm getting 2.5MB/s on the same file from same server and same browser, they all download the same speed....

read the bold. and again, the browser itself has almost nothing to do with the physical file transfer. all it does is write a stream of data to your hard drive. you misunderstand the basic mechanics of the process.

You have to realize that you are downloading a file from a public website on a different server. The servers network load changes constantly, thus changing the speeds and times.

I just realized this was a bit of a bump, sorry.

Heres a file with 100% controlled test conditions you can use:
http://www.epicbananaclan.co.cc/speedtest.zip

Thats just the TF2 maps pl_hoodoo and ctf_2fort in a zip file, just 2 hefty sized files i had handy. Its on my old VDS which has no access at all now. 100mbit, its in NY, USA. Use that as a benchmark.

Also, using wireless is stupid, use a cable for this kind of test. :\
