Do you have any Linux experience?
If so, the *nix SRCDS does have a few one-ups from the windows version. Mainly -autoupdate.

If you have used only windows in the past, windows server handles SRCDS without a hitch Smile

If it's TF2 you'll be running as far as I'm aware -autoupdate doesnt work, even on linux...

Are there css server updates often?
I know TF2 has been getting quite a few... Mainly because after every update they release a second update to fix what they messed up with the first Toungue

that's great but you also asked how many people it can hold (right after you stated the kind of NIC you had), and that is dependent on your upload speed, you did not mention it in your initial post. so while your computer may be awesome if you don't have the available bandwidth, it doesn't really matter.

autoupdate doesn't work on linux because it's looking in the steam folder instead of the orangebox one, there's a posted fix in the steampowered forums but each time you -autoupdate it runs correctly once then gets overwritten by the update itself. yes, very stupid but it's a user fix not one officially from valve.

don't worry you'll get a lot of answers soon. the question about bandwidth was to provide more info for others who would have asked the same thing.

oh, i use both os's, centos for linux and server2003, i think linux makes it easier to manage multiple servers on one box. though if you use a control panel it's the same for both.

Yeah, I'd say if you know alot about linux use it. If you don't know alot with it stick to windows. Smile
I went with linux, it's nice but for a noob way way more work. Then again I had to setup the software raid and so on, was a bit tricky got it setup now.
next is trying to get the servers running.
Good luck with your o/s.
