Tutorial: How to setup a TF2 server

Hi, I'm having this error with my server. I'm pretty sure ive done everything right but this error keep popping up when i start my server. Help?

Ever tried the search function found on most forums?
There is plenty of threads about this already.

Well... that won't help you know, but in the future it might.

Try closing Steam and then wait 2minutes, then start the server agian.

oh, sorry i got caught up looking around on google and searching the forums wasn't on my mind. I tried closing it and starting it again but i still got the same error and only im able to connect to it and only on lan. Thanks for you help btw. Also, i don't even know what to search o.o

Well the error itself isn't critical, it's just annoying. So you can ignore it

for this:
c:\HLserver\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf -hostport 27015 +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort

does it matter if the host port number changes? Or can it even be a range like ####-#####?

i am stuck at the .cfg file, how do i save it not as a text file through notepad and how do i change settings?

you just put config.cfg and not .txt and for the save as type choose all files

Hi I am having trouble setting up my tf2 server... I got up to step 3 and then nothing worked right... it didn't download much and the cmd window only flashes when I click on the update installer and then turns off... can someone walk me through it or something?

Make sure that you put the correct directory, C:/thefoldername

and if it still doesn't work, right click it, and click run as administrator.

What is this .bat file? I have done all the previous steps and uninstalled and re-installed several times and there is no .bat file. D:

This: c:\HLServer\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir c:\HLServer

Put that in a .bat file and run it.
