Questions... :)
#1
How do you start a hosting company and make a profit? What internet provider do you use? What hardware do you need to start out? How do you overcome the problem of having to restart your server? How are you able to let customers control what they want, without lagging the server? Sorry about all the questions I'm just wondering how you would start a actual hosting company.

Well starting a webhosting company is easy really, still shitloads of work, best is to start off with a reseller package.

gameserver hosting is something totally different tho. You will spend loads of money to set it up correct and lose a lot till you get clients. you will need a server machine placed in a datacenter somewhere running several gameservers for clients, the clients would need FTP access and access to the server, preferably through a control panel.

Starting the things to do isn't hard really, it's the legal part around it that's the most work and money. Like you have to register your company and pay taxes, run the administration etc.
I got into a webhosting company as my hobby a while back but it seems a lot easier in the beginning than actually doing it Smile

Also im not sure if you said this but what internet hosting would u start out with? T1 is incredibly expensive, is there cheaper ones?

A datacenter is a building which has loads of server racks and space in it for servers which they rent out to people. Datacenters usually have 5 or more Gbit connections directly to backbones to provide the best connectivity.
You can rent space to put your server there (or rent a server from them) and get the company going.

Running from your home won't work really, since that's only 1 connection and usually it's way too slow (like T1 is only 1.3 mbit down / 1.3 mbit upload) plus the connection is so expensive it's not even worth it.
That's why running a server in a datacenter is much more convenient, they give 99% uptime guarantees due to 5+ connections which will very rarely fail all at the same time, plus they can offer it cheap, they pay energy costs and can even manage it for you if you wish.

You will have to look around in your region, just google it and there should be enough to pop up near you.

How much it runs depends on what processor it is, amount of GHz doesn't say anything these days.

bandwidth is often explained as the amount of data TRANSFER per month comes with a server.
bandwidth actually IS how fast your connection is, so for me that would be 3mbps download and 512kbps upload.

20/5?
20Mbps download / 5Mbps upload?
20kbps /5 kbps

every 20 cows you buy you get 5 sheep for free? but only on the 20th day of the fifth month at the time of 5 minutes past 8 PM

Wait are you talking about my home connection (20/5) or the possible server one (1500GB)?
