Upgrading internet, how many slots?
#1
Ok, I am currently running a Garry's Mod server on my 384kbps upload. I generally run about 6 players and most players average 100 or 150 ping, so I think I'm doing fine there...however, I will be getting my connection upgraded tomorrow...then I'll have 512 up to 768kbps upload.

How many players will I be able to host then? What about with some extra tweaks?

Also, I was hoping someone could tell me the bandwidth requirements per person on a voice server such as Ventrillo.

Edit: I just ran a bandwidth monitoring program, and I came to the conclusion that each player uses about 8KB/s (64kbps), so I would theoretically be able to run a 8 slot server. But, I could probably squeeze about 12 slots out of my new connection (assuming it runs at the minimum guaranteed speed). Is this correct? And, I would still like to know about voice servers.

I'm afraid you're a bit too enthousiastic with the amount of players, I'm not sure how the bandwidth is in GMod but in general it's like this: (minimum settings, 33 tick/default, sv_maxrate of 5000)

Kbps Players
240 6
320 8
400 10
480 12
560 14
640 16
720 18
800 20
880 22
960 24
1120 28
1280 32
1440 36
1600 40

Edit: at 8KB/s per player you would indeed be at 10/12 slots at a connection of 768.

Tests are always lower than the actual bandwidth, means you have 768. (mine always says 460 but I have 512)
so you should be able t run 10 players, maybe 12.

Alright, thanks.

Do you know how much bandwidth is needed per client for a teamspeak or ventrilo server? I was thinking of running a 8 slot ventrilo (with 3 people n it most of the time) and a 6 slot Garry's Mod server. Would that work?

Yeh ventrilo/teamspeak doesnt use that much bandwidth as long as you dont keep talking at the same time forever.
combined with 6 slot server would work excellent

Hey there Wink I have 768 up also. 12 Players is the upper limit for me, no lag at 10.
