2x Dual Core Opteron & Linux

Any chance of running 4 Tick100 servers with 18 players per server?

The thing I'm concerned about is the Linux loadbalancing. Anyone using this kind of setup and running something similar?

On a dual dualcore Opteron >> Yes (starting from dual 265 setup this should work fine: 2 x 1,8 Ghz per CPU).

I ran some tests on a box i had and got a tick 100 40 slot server running on a 2ghz dual core opteron and it used (when full) aproox 65% cpu usage of 1 of the cores so 32.5% average on the whole cpu, used about 1.5 gig of ram tho

so yeah u proly can run 4 18 slot tick 100s

plus remember if 3 are empty and 1 is full it only counts as 18 slots running at that time for cpu usage purposes.

What the hell are you talking about?

- one 40 slot server DOES NOT use 1,5 gb ram
- a 40 slot server can not run stable tick100
- you can not compare 4 x 18 slots with 2 x 40 slots tick100

1) depends what ur doing
2) yes it can if ur box can handle it (server_fps was ~150)
3) i agree however 2x 40 slot tick 100 will use more resources than 4x18 slot - therefore i was trying to assure you that you'd be able to run 4x 18 slot tick 100s with no problem

just make sure u recompile ur kernel to something higher than 100 hz Smile

Hollanda is right tho,

servers above 20 players will never reach a good 100 tickrate, it's a known issue. While everything might look ok if you check stats and stuff, it is not ingame, there is weird lag and gameplay isn't smooth. No-one really knows where it comes from.

There is in no way any type of flaming in Hollanda's post. He just doesn't want wrong information being given out to cause further problems afterwards.
