Buying A Server Computer
#1
Hey guys im thinking about buying another computer purely dedicated to being a game server. Any idea on some good specs that are not too expensive but still good? (i dont want to buy from a site that requires me to pay over and over) I also need it to be able to run multiple game servers so it needs to be good specs Toungue

A quad core with like 4GB memory will do the job fine and should easily go under 500$

Are you going to host it locally, or send it to a d/c? And why not build one yourself?

Which package do you have?
Unless you are paying several hundred a month, it's not nearly as fast as you think. Plus, it's still a home connection.

Please do not PM me for server related help

Indeed, and once it starts to lag and what not, it will decrease your servers popularity and what not. Also if people find out your on a home connection, its also not a good thing.

Verizon fios is just like any other damn home isp... The only difference is that you're running on light instead of copper.

But yea, ANY of those computers will be fine... Build one your self or have a friend do it. Never buy a computer off ebay, you're just asking for a nice doa.
Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

at home always the connection will be the limit. any cpu you can currently buy will be fine for the job (apart from intel atoms etc. of course). you won't be able to run more than one server in any case because of your connection. and remember: connection speed is not everything. the ping of home connections will always be bad for players using different providers than yourself.

Well put. It is fine for a small server or two, but if you want to start a clan/community, go dedicated for the best performance.

And it is cheaper if you hosting a bunch of servers.
