Server Population?
#16
thats doesn't seam to be a good idea, if the player is expecting to join a certain server that has room in it chances are when they get redirected because it was a fake server they'll leave. in other words that can go both ways, it may work or it can make things worse. im actually surprised that that can be pulled off O.o

I don't redirect servers, and I got some people who constantly join.

to add on what Dub is saying -

In our servers well allways put that, example: Our new Dust2 Server:

Veloci Servers DE_Dust 2 24/7 100tick *512fps*

The name is very important, you need to "sell" your server to the person coming in because there will allways be another server they can goto. Name: Put very clearly in the name what it is so the "customer" is not confused

DO NOT put the tickrate in the server name if it is lower than 100 tick, most people will go looking for 100 tick for a pub. If they see your server without the tickrate in the name, but sounds good anyway they might try it out and if its a decent 66 tick server they won't be able to tell the difference. Unless of course you get someone with the knowledge to check net graph, but most CSS players don't know about that and are mindless pubbers Wink

I tried a match server a few months ago and people said they liked it better and I had it running at 66tick for them to tryout just for fun. Big Grin
Not sure what you guys think is the limit for 100tick slots wise.

I wrote a few tips a year ago on how someone can populate their own server by themselves with the help of no one else.

http://noobgamers.com/forum/tutorials/39-counter-strike-source-how-populate-your-game-server.html

To me the server name plays a big part in populating your server as well with the map that is being played. I don't like to fill up a server with bots only 2 and when human players join the server they bots leave. One that that i don't allow and i tell others when they are starting a new server to don't let one advertise in the server. I like turning a few features off like awp, autos and friendly fire.
