So I'm currently running a Q6600 box in a datacentre and just want a few questions answering regarding CSS slots.
I was wondering how many slots per core (If I assign the server to use 1 core) could it run at both 33 tick and 66 tick?
I was thinking about setting up a low tickrate huge CSS mega server...I'm talking like 60 slots.
Thanks for any replies!

Well my server is xeon quad core 2.4 GHZ conroe, so it's pretty much a Q6600.
I can do 30 slot tf2 servers pretty decently.
you could prolly do more with css, u duno about 60 though, maybe at 33 tick.

100 Tickrate takes 4 X the CPU usage as 33 tickrate
66 Tickrate takes 2.5 X the CPU usage as 33 tickrate

We got ourselves a Q6600 a couple of weeks ago ...
Our goal was to run 2 100tick 16slot on each core but we're comming a bit short (and it's not a bandwidth problem)... it works but sometimes the tick drops on the core with 2 servers ...
Still investigating how to streamline the OS (windows 2003 server) have some more work to do there but not sure if that will do the trick.

Hhhmm....
We I basically want to run a 64 slot 33 tick and even maybe 66 tick.
I know thats over the limit for 66 tick but it seems to work on these other mega servers.
Would 2 cores manage 64 slots @ 66 tick?

You should be able to pull 40 slots 100 tick on each core of that really...
Hazz, it's always 1 core that does the job, SRCDS is not multithreaded.
I think you can come a pretty decent way running 64 players at 33 tick, I've ran 40 bots @ 33tick on a E6600 core without tickrate drops, since players use a lot less CPU it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Do you think I could push 64 slots?

Yes, and here's some "inside" info for you, I've used this on one of my servers and it worked great:
64 players
66 tickrate
FPSBooster
fps_max 100
You shouldn't notice much tickrate drops at all, just at round starts it can drop quite a bit. I think the tickrate will start dropping around 35-40 players but it shouldn't drop below 33 tick any time. Just try a bit.

Awesome.
Could you explain how the lower fps on the server helps?

Usually the strain on the CPU increases when more players join while running high FPS, in this case lowering it will make it way more stable and less CPU intensive which means you can run more slots. In theory you don't need more than 66 FPS anyway but to keep a "safe" distance from that number set it to max 100. Your server will run at an FPS around ~80 Which is perfectly fine.
EDIT: Be sure to set the affinity to 1!! core!
