My srcds works fine and everything. But when I try to connect I cant. Anyone else can. Even shows up in servers list. I put my internal and connect and then nothing. For the heck of it I tried my external nothing. Also something else that is weird is when I try to connect to any other server while srcds is running I cannot connect. But if I stop srcds, I can connect to other servers no problem. Any ideas?

Like amdcursed said, you can't play and host from the same computer.
If you want to do the above, start up CSS and click create server in the game.

Have you tried looking at your firewall to make sure its allowed?
If running on windows, check the windows firewall.
You CAN run srcds and play counter strike source on the same machine.

it would probably work if you add another local IP to your network card then run srcds on the secondary IP

Im running on fios. But the weird thing is. When I was at my house with dsl. I could run a dedicated server on source and play. But now I cant. Also if I run a dedicated server for 1.6 where Im at now. I can play and host a server. Why cant I with Source?

As we've already stated several times in this thread alone:
1) Some people are able to host and play on the same computer, some cannot.
2) Non-the-less, it is NOT recommended to do this
3) Rather then host and play on the same computer, you are better off setting up a listen server (New Game from within the game).
As I've said, it is called a DEDICATED server because it is support to be DEDICATED.
If you want to run a real server, run it on a dedicated box: end of story.

WTF?!
u can EASILY play and host at the same time with srcds!
just use your Internal IP to connect!
and it doesnt "lag" up or give any other issues to your server either.
i can perfectly run and play at the same time.
and anyways, why would anyone wanna host a server and not PLAY in it themselves?
i wouldn't.

tabish, that's you definition of perfect maybe, I've tried it on machines ranging from P3 1.0GHz to a Q6600, NONE run a server and the game at the same time perfect. It also doesn't matter how good your computer is.
Of course I play in my own servers, but all mine are on dedicated machines, not some sloppy home computer that's being used to play and browse the internet. DEDICATED means it's specialized, dedicated, to do the task, any computer you play on isn't dedicated to the server by definition.
You can talk long and detailed about this, but I can tell you with 3+ years of experience, you may be able to play in your own server on the same computer yes but it will NEVER EVER have the quality of a "server".
I'm going to make a thread about this sometime soon anyway because most people just don't seem to get what's happening, I'll demonstrate what's going on when you try to play and host on the same machine.
Like Mooga said, want to host and play on the same machine? Start up the game and click the create server button, that's the only way of running a "perfect" server while playing. These are called Listenservers btw
