ok so how much players could i possibly hold?
and wat kind of speed would i need to host 40 players?

Not sure. But you could try to set it up and if it lags you can always remove two slots to find a stable maxplayers.

alright..... does this mean planet guide
is outdated because it says for counter strike source i need 1600 kbps to host 40 players when i have 6600 kbps....

It's not accurate. My 10slot server uses 2000kbps easily.

yea ill try to test... Even though one of my steam friends said he hosted a 12 man server with 0.8 mbps upload speed for css and he started to lag around 12, so i would think if i had 6.60 mbps i would be able to host about 60 players according to what he said... Ill try to test... If the player is far away from the server and had big lag like 320 ping, does that take up more upload or same amount?

Location shouldn't matter. But if they are from another country they might have higher pings because of bad routing.

I'm sure your friend ran it with the lowest rates. I ran mine at 66tick with sv_maxrate 50000. (OrangeBox).

oh, so i would have to put the maxrate down to hold more players? I want maxrate high for performence and idk if he was running zombie reloaded or not so does zombie reloaded take more upload speed than regular css.... I really hope i can hold 40 players, i must test...

Lower rate will allow you to host more, but it will lower the quallity when it starts getting lower than 20000-25000. Smile

But start to test, that would be best.

the quality? You mean performance... I am trying to host 40 players without lag, thats all... I mean the only reason i want to know it now is because players are starting to go on my server more and if it hits 20 players then more and more will join until 40 and i dont want the server to lag and crash and people to not like it... Thats the only reason right now... So i can probably host 40 but low rate... But i want good rate Wink
thanks for all the help too!

A little off topic but with comcast powerboost, if anyone know what comcast powerboost is, please answer this:

my upload speed and dl is :

But i was wondering if my upload speed would be affected with this?
And if it is can you please tell me my real upload speed?
People are saying my upload speed 6.60 mbps is enough to hold 200+ players so idk....
thanks,

As of 2010, the upgrade allows users who subscribe to the 12 megabits per second (Mbps) speed or higher to download and upload the beginning of content quicker.

Basically, if your downloading a 1080p video, it works out how much you will need, gives a higher speed to get you watching, then stabilises out, not experienced this myself however.

Read it, it seams that it does effect upload? To bad i can't switch to verizon because of it's not available in my area... Does anyone know how many players i can hold with 3.60 mbps?

tbh comcast sucks because of this powerboost....

With a 3.60mbps you should be able to handle 20 - 25 players. Smile
The best thing, agian, is to test it and find the best slots which does not occasionally lag if there are a jump on the line.

yea, i guess.... Actually another friend i have said i can handle 40 players at 7500 sv_maxrate, and if its below 20000 you said it would decrease performance of the server, now what u mean by performance like ingame or just server like opening folder's performance?

Performance such as high chockes and possible delay some stuff and it will not feel smooth to play on the server.
