Bandwidth Estimate?
#1
Hey guys,

I was wondering, how much bandwidth would be required to host 16 full slots of tf2 on a server that uses sv_downloadurl for all of the maps and etc which are on a seperate server?

The sv_downloadurl saves you on bandwidth for the game server, but adds bandwidth on the web server.

It is hard to determine, because think about that the more people connect, the more bandwidth it will use. If the server is full 24/7, it will take a lot more then if it is never full.

can you give me any estimate? with netgraph, the i/o was about 2 in and 2 out but i run a lot of scripts that will connect to mysql databasing and all so i took a safe 7.5 kb/s per player. So having estimated that, and knowing that that there are 2592000 seconds in a 30 day month, would that mean that each player uses 19440000 kb a month? If it does, then with an average of 15 slots full on a 24 slot server, would i need 278 gigabytes a month?

That is if your server is full 24/7, but I doubt you will use over 100gb in a month for that 1 server.

So if i have a full 24 slot server, you say that i'll use around 300 gb?

Look. Using some kind of network packet analyzing software take an estimate of say... A week or maybe 5 days or so, and see how much you consume. Then multiply that to get what your monthly usage will be.

Actually, the client only needs to download the files ONCE.
So which means if it's allways the same people then basically you don't need much bandwidth, and it also depends on how much files you have, if im not mistaken.

Files? Custom Maps maybe, but the OP already mentioned this was hosted elsewhere.

So which means nothing is downloaded/uploaded from this server apart from player traffic/voice chat etc etc..
Which if I'm not mistaken, need to be downloaded over and over again...
