Plus, the CS 1.6 server works fine....
Ryan Wrote:CGS|Todd Wrote:so your saying the reason i cant run a cs:s source server out of my house is because my ISP isnt blocking anything.. But when i called them they said that port is blocked for the reason i listed. They told me if i would like to upgrade to a business account it would not be blocked which is $100/month...Ryan Wrote:soviet Wrote:I've tried turning off all firewalls, both software and the router firewall. My ISP is Bell Canada. The one thing I know is most Residential ISP's will not unblock 27015 on their routers due to the fact that it causes to much traffic on their system internally. I have a friend who works for Verizon and he said that is one of the reasons that Verizon will block that port on Residential connections. no -- read closer, i didn't say that. i said its possible but unlikely they are blocking that port. i have never heard of verizon blocking port 27015, plenty of people run servers from verizon residential connections. i have a feeling the customer service agent was just trying to squeeze some additional money out of you . . . the fcc would not like this policy . . .

I don't know what the problem is, but it works if people connect using the console (connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). This is fine for now since I'm on a home connection anyway and have a dynamic IP.
I plan to put together an older computer from spare parts, with a Pentium 4 1.5 GHz and 512 MB RAM. How many players should fit comfortably on a server with these specs? I don't need any more than 5-7 slots. Would I get any significant improvement by upgrading to 1 GB RAM?

Get a static IP. That could fix your problem!

But that requires money. lol. So is that computer good enough?

It's free? Just get a static LAN IP. Or did you mean external IP(static)

Yeah, I meant external.
