couldn't allocate any server IP port (error message)
#1
So im running a Vista x64 system and I had my srcds TF2 server hosted on my laptop but I found that it lagged too much. Not sure why, i dont think hardware had anything to do with it but could be wrong.

Windows Vista Home Basic x32
Intel Core 2duo 1.6ghz (2cores)
4Gb RAM

I moved the server to my desktop computer where i game and when I booted up srcds, then TF2 and tried to join it I got the error message:
"couldn't allocate any server IP port".

I dont have the -port in when I run srcds, some people said that might be the problem. Also, if I have my server running, I get this error message no matter which game, which server im trying to join.

If anybody could help me out that would be awesome. Could vista have anything to do with it?

i heard that sometimes you get that error when you play on the same computer as you host the server on, you can try to change the port to something besides 27015.

Which port? the host port? what would you suggest as a new port for the server? and you mean -hostport <port> in the command line right?

27016 or something like that would work fine

Ok, i used that and now it says, couldnt allocate any hltv IP port. I then tried every port between 27015 and 27030 and they all didnt work.

I'm having the same problem. It didnt come up until I designated my external IP port. It would assume an internal before (192.168.1.2), so technically that didnt work either, but I didnt get the error message.

Are you hosting and playing on the same computer? What's your command line look like?

I figured it out. I took the ip and port OUT of my command line and put them in the config file as ip and hostport. Once I made those changes everything worked as planned. Oh, and I was not playing on the same computer as the server, but they were connected to the same router.

Ok now also try running it without the IP command in your config file as the IP command cannot be used behind a router if you specify and external IP address, which I assumed you had done. Pretty sure the command doesn't work inside the server.cfg so try taking it out as it is not needed.
