How to budget for furnishing a new apartment?
#1
I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how much I should be spending on new furniture as I start a new job in a new city and move into a new apartment. I've come up with a checklist of a few dozen furniture and utensil items to purchase eventually (ranging in priority from "I need this" to "this may come in handy some day"). How do I figure out how much to spend on furnishing? Should it be based on some percentage of my savings rate? (Over what period?) Is there some hard amount that is a good rule of thumb?

Let's say I make a little over $100k (living in the bay area though), no debts and more than enough liquid to pay over 1 year's rent. Assume I have no prior furniture.

I've filled out some budgeting worksheets and excluding furniture expenses, I should be able to save $1k-$2k per month, though most likely more once I'm able to rent out the other bedroom in my apartment. One goal I had was to save up enough to put a down payment on a house after 1-2 years. However, after seeing the housing situation in the bay area, I'm starting to question whether I want to own a home so soon. Either way, I am more inclined towards saving money.

Also, a few more pointed questions: what is a good price to pay for a queen mattress? (I found one I liked for $550, is that too much?) How about for a sofa? I'm not sure how much location matters but if anyone has recently furnished their home/apartment in the bay area, i'm curious to know how much you spent.

I'm furnishing my first apartment right now and the answer is it depends. I'm personally spending about 2000 from my emergency fund on essentials right away, then budgeting 200 a month for more stuff as well as money to refill my emergency fund. However you decide to do it without stretching yourself thin is fine. You can Find furniture stores in Maryland for better choice

Garage sales, estate sales, IKEA, stuff friends/family no longer need or want. If you enjoy the odd DIY project, sandpaper and paint are your friends. IKEA to fill in the gaps.

I can understand your situation, because now, after buying a new house, I face the problem of furniture and reparation. There is no way I can buy everything with less than 200 thousand dollars because we have 5 rooms for our 6 children. I earn a lot of money, but our family consists of 6 people, and it's a little too much for my job. I am considering applying to Mortgage Advice Newcastle company to help me resolve this problem by installing all the needed furniture. I won't be able to take my kids there because they simply don't have wardrobes to place their clothes in.

I would like to know where I can buy some cool wall mirror, good quality, not mass-market like Ikea. Any tips?

If you want something of good quality, you have to understand that you have to spend a little bit. I know what you can look at, this is the website of ariachairs, here you can look at mirrors for yourself, the range is quite large and for the quality of goods I can vouch, because I myself have repeatedly bought from them. So, I think this will be a good option for you.
