EDIT: so sorry... I'm way lost.. I'm not running source... sorry for posting in the wrong place people! :EDIT

I've been having the same issue since end of last month.

I've come this far...
./steam -command update -game valve -verify_all
./steam -command update -game cstrike -verify_all
server works.

Adding metamod or metamod-p gives me the same error as this thread talks about.

The not so fun part is that I hade the gameserver running fine, then at end of month 10 it died... without human action. (old system is Gentoo)

Since it was dead I took the chance to reinstall the the linux system from scratch (Ubunto newest version on 32 bit hardware). Restoring the old game .. no luck.. and eventually I removed my "backup" and started from scratch, since the problem occurs when adding metamod I'm pretty much dead in the water, without metamod I might as well kill the server.

I've learned that the game had some updates at that time and that has to be the cause. Solution.. I have no clue.

How to replicate problem:
Download and install 8.10 Ubuntu
./steam -command update -game valve -verify_all
./steam -command update -game cstrike -verify_all
try server - works
add metamod or metamod-p (no plugins)
try server - will not work
