Nobody Can connect, Interesting issue
#1
Hello all, i have been lurking through forums for the past few days looking for this answer, and ive seen alot of threads talk about the issue but no resolution for it.

Here is my specs.

Win xp pro (5.1 build 2600)
2 Gigs of ram
x2 processor (3800)

Ok so here is the scenario

I used a really informative guide to install srcds for the first time located at

http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=HL2Guides.Detail&id=4&game=3

i followed all of the directions and my server came online, installed and updated properly, and i even joined it myself. I was extatic Big Grin.

I am not behind a router but i am directally connected with the modem and my ip is 69.60.228.245 I have had many people look for my server in the list or try and connect manually and no matter the settings i use they are unable to connect.

I will just list a few of the things that i have done to try and get things working so we can avoid repition.

1: As ive mentioned there is no router, and ive sucessifally pinged the port via a site like http://whatsmyip.org/ports/.

2: Ive made sure that the server.cfg has sv_lan 0 and sv_region 1 (also tryed 255). I know the cfg is taking because i can adjust other properties and the next time i start the server (obvisoually testing on lan), the new settings are there.

3: Ive tryed several different startup lines, which i will now paste in here to you.

C:\hlds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 33 -port 27015 -maxplayers 10 +map de_dust2

C:\hlds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 33 -port 27015 -maxplayers 10 +map de_dust2 -ip 69.60.228.245

also ive tryed on different ports.

4: There is absolutly no firewall running on my system, when my computer boots the only things that start are my sound manager, steam, and network connection, and nvidia control pannel.

5: Also just to try this out i added a router to my system and then forwareded the ports, which i knew wouldent work, but i tried anyway.

6: I contacted my ISP to make sure that they were not blocking any ports and they assured me that every port was open from them

So here is where we stand, im thinking it must be my NIC but i dont know how to diagonose, i emplore you to try connecting to my server, ill leave it up for a day or so just to see if by chance it starts working.

My mobo is a nforce 3 250 so the NIC aint all that new, but the drivers are up to date.

Also when i say people have tryed connecting they have tryed every way, via the connect command, trying to add it to favorites, join through friends, none of it works.

Also they have been trying to connect with my ip 69.60.228.245 and also with 69.60.228.245:27015.

i also tryed 27016.

Well i appriciated you taking the time to read this, if you are able to chat live id love for you to add me on friends, my tag is fedhell.

And remember any advice is helpful, even if it sounds obvious, im still new to this software.

Thanks again,

A good ole Canadianer,

Ok, well i appriciate the reads, and i will just share with you guys how i got it working, incase someone else looks this up in the future. I did 2 things simultanilsuly and 1 of them fixed it. I scanned for malware and it deleted 10 infections, but at the same time i switched to port 27030 and then suddenly it works Big Grin. Thanks for the reads, have a nice day.

You are gaming on the same computer, yes?
That's the issue.

Please do not PM me for server related help
