[RESOLVED]hldsupdatetool problems
#1
I'm trying to get hldsupdatetool to update. I install the program. I go to the command prompt and I can't type anything. It says it's getting the lasted version of the program so I let it run. After about30 seconds the screen goes away and I get two files:

ClientRegistry.blob
hldsupdatetool_35

I try to run the program again and it doesn't work. It just flashes and disappears. What do I do? I've tried everything!

Define, "I'm trying to run the program again"

The program needs commands in commandline parameters. You can't just start it and do things after.

Put HLDSupdatetool.exe in C:\hldsupdate
make a folder C:\myserver
Open up a command line
Code:
cd C:\hldsupdate
hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game cstrike -dir C:\myserver

Ok I got it to run. Now I get this:

Warning: unrecognized parameter 'server'
Checking Bootstrap version...
Updating Installing
Cannot open blob archive file: CMultFieldBlob(mem-mapped): File does not exist and failed to create new file

Now what?

The unknown parameter is probably because you don't have quotes around a part of the commandline that has a space in it. Example: -dir C:\my server, this should be -dir "C:\my server"

The cannot open blob error is because you need to create the installfolder manually before you run the updater.

Ok I think everythings working. One more thing. How do I do things like change the map rotation and rename the server? Plus what's with all the errors in the console box? Is it normal? Or have I done something wrong?

There are a few errors that are normal.

You can change the mapcycle in the mapcycle.txt file
You can change/set your servername and almost every other config in the server.cfg (you have to make this one yourself, there are hudnreds of examples across the net and this site)

Doesn't matter what you call it. However I do call my HLDS installations for HL1.

Thanks, where do I make the folder? Under C:/HLDS?

You can make it like:

C:/HLDS/HL1

or

C:/SRCDS/HL1

What about if my server is not a dedicated server. How would I do it if trying to do it through FTP?
