running server over bridged connection
#1
ok i'm having this problem that i hope you can help me with..

i've been trying to find a solution for it by searching this forum and google but nothing has helped..

i have two computers, my main which is connected directly to the router and my server pc which is connected to my main and then to the internet via a connection bridge here on my main..

the internet and everything works fine on my server pc på the srcds wont connect to the internet.. i can connect to it with the internal IP from my main but not with the external and no one else can either.

no matter what i do it says that it is in lan mode.. even though i do sv_lan 0 (its even in the server.cfg)

the ports are open for the IP the server pc uses so it should work..

i simply cant get my head around this..

hope someone can help me..

I don't think you can. The internet is connected directly on the main machine, it doesn't know anything about the second machine. Unless there is an application you can run in the main machine that will forward ports to an internal machine.

Buy a router/switch

Bridged connections are a pain in the ass.
You probably will not be able to make it work unless you connect the server to a router and then the modem.

Please do not PM me for server related help

Bridged connections are actually not that bad.

The server has it's own IP and your main computer simply works as a relay for that IP, so nothing gets blocked or anything. The bridged connection isn't your problem, its the router.
Bridged connections in no way interfere with anything at all.

well the odd thing is.. when i tried to set it up on the same machine, back when it was directly connected to the router, it worked fine.. people could connect to it online..

Does it still have the same IP?

Cause I have 2 servers connected through my workstation with bridged connections and they work fine.

no the ip has changed but i've compensated for that by changing the port openings for the server pc ip and the server software uses the new ip too
