Q6600 CSS Questions
#1
I was thinking about getting a Q6600 server with Server 2008 and was wondering how many slots could I run all total, servers/slots per core, what rates for the servers, and FPS.

Specs:

Q6600
4GH
250GB
1500GB BW
100Mbit Uplink

Could I do this on this server?

3x11 Slot with a few slots for SRCTV
28 Slot
18 Slot
22 Slot
24 Slot
20 Slot

and a 24 Slot TF2 Server

I'm assuming all the servers cannot be 100 Tick?

Well that CPU will handle 40 slots at 100 tick per core (160 total) for CSS.

Make sure the TF2 server has it's own core, also it will come in handy having all the match servers on a separate core too.

An example how I would do it:

Core1:
-11 slot @100tick
-11 slot @100tick
-11 slot @100tick
- Some SourceTV slots

Core2:
-28 slot @66tick
-18 slot @100tick

Core3:
-22 slot @66tick
-24 slot @66tick

Core4:
-20 slot @66tick
-24 slot TF2 @66tick

In this setup core 2 and 4 can be pretty stressful at busy times, you'll have to see how your CPU performs under such circumstances.

I would give TF2 it's own core. A 24 slot TF2 server might be a little snug on a 2.4GHz core if shared with another full server. However if the other server isn't full... I wouldn't see too many issues...

Thanks Drocona and Mooga. Is there a certain server.cfg I should use? What will happen if I set all to 100 Tick?

EDIT: What FPS am I looking at for each server?

EDIT2: I meant to say that the TF2 would use that 24 slot that was listed above that statement.

You shouldn't run larger server at 100 Tick.
As for TF2, it wont go higher then 66 Tick Toungue

As for FPS, see what you can do. If you can get 512 on each server that would be awesome. But it depends. When I was running a TF2 server I had could barely get an FPS over 5 Toungue... But that server probably had issues, lol.

On the 28 Slot server, 66 tick, 600FPS server when its around 15-20 players, I see players stuttering etc. I check rcon stats and the FPS is at 10-100. Now I don't see why it would drop as theres no one else on the other servers.

Anyone know why on my 1000FPS servers that its more stable than when I set other servers to 300-700 FPS? The dips when some servers are 300-700FPS when I test them drop more than a 1000FPS server.

Flonn, I would check the CPU usage just to be sure, also running certain mods will just make the FPS drop.
lower FPS servers should be more stable than 1000FPS at any time since 1000FPS requires HUGE amount of system resources (CPU)
