With these new mods on steam, our zombie servers and insurgency servers have been seeing an epic amount of traffic. Plus the TF2 servers are still seeing the same traffic, and with that, our server's upload got maxed, and caused some lag Sad

So the up/down bandwidth is both 10MB/s

Each server is 20-24 slots 66 tick, I was wondering about maxrate settings what will help keep it from maxing out with 120 clients connected, and not cause choke and whatnot by making the maxrate too low...

Lowering the tic rate should help.

Thanks for the reply.
Anything that can work w/o having to restart the servers?

How do you think 33tick vs 66tick compares for tf2?

I myself never noticed any difference

I never notice much. However some people claim to see a difference.

yah, that's why I as asking about stuff that didn't require a restart of the servers Sad

I solved the problem for now by just shutting one off. lol

I'll try 33 tick for tf2 and see if people notice the change.

Yes you set the cl_commandrate I think for each player and sv_maxrate for total ... Are you sure it is taking up 10MB/s?

According to this:
http://whisper.ausgamers.com/wiki/index.php/Tickrate

For 120 slots 24/7 at 66tick per slot you should be getting around 7.68 Mbps not even close to the 100mbit your seeing.

Make sure that the servers are actually producing the traffic. Tools can help depending on the OS. I believe somewhere else is producing the traffic not the TF2. 10MB/s is kinda unrealistic unless you have custom maps and massive users downloading maps from your server

Obviously he meant 10 Mb/s (=10 Mbps) and not 10 MB/s (=80 Mbps). You can host about 80-100 players (10-15 kB/s = 80-120 kbps per player) with 10 Mbit line.

Note that the values in whispers guide date back to early 2006 and are nowhere near the current usage.

Drocona: Yea, but CS/CSS are 2+ years old so it must apply to those

No, that's the thing, there have been a lot of changes in the source engine over the years.

I used to be able to run 50 100tick slots on a P4 2.8Ghz, then some time later I could hardly get that done on a core of the E6600, and these days 40 100 tick slots will fit an E6600 core better.
