You have +fps_max 512 in your command line?

I say like DerekRDenholm, you have +fps_max 1000 in your command line?
If you don't, try to put it in your command line. Tell us if it isn't working.

yea, I've tried +fps_max 600, 700 and 1000.

It seems to max out at 256 for some reason. I've never run into this before. What would be stopping it at 256 with srcdsfpsbooster?

Oh, I should comment, this is running server 2003 as well! Does that make a difference?

If you have it at 700 it should be 512 FPS, maybe you have it somewhere in a cfg twice?

Anyway, to check if that's so, start the server, then when it's all up type fps_max 700 in the server console, see if that helps.

Medium to high cpu load will bring down the fps if your server can't keep up. Also running a lot of servers on the box will bring it down. Sounds like for whatever reason the hardware is simply not able to keep up all the time, but sometimes it can.

Are you running older xeons? That could easily be why. Any older system (2 years or more) may have problems keeping up with 500 fps.

Highly doubt that is the problem.
