hlds not working. (I searched)
#1
First of all, I know I'm not posing in the right sections. But I looked in the hlds sections, and it seems abandoened. No recent posts in moths. So here is my problem. I'm at my witts end here. I read the read-me, and got no help. I did what it said and it did not work. Ok, so here is what happend. I was using command prompt to go into the hlds update menus and stuff, but everytime I put in the "dir" location, it always says "The system cannot find the path specified." I know the path is valid because I did it using the "run" program. So I'm thinking, ok, I'll just take it out of the folder, and just put it in a default location. But everytime I try to install a game using it, it says "Cannot open blob archive file" CMultiFieldBlob<mem-mapped file>: File does not exist and failed to create new file" WHAT THE HELL DO I DO???

First: The HLDS is NOT abandoned. I answer questions in there when i see something new.
Second: When are you having the problem? Installing or running?
If you can't install, make the folder you want it installed in before you run the installer. The update tool sometimes has issues creating the folder to install in. If you still get the blob issue, make sure to clear out your blob files. They either stay near the update tool or the install folder, I don't remember exactly where... I rarely get blob issue even though they are quite common.

Lastly: This thread it getting moved to the HLDS second. I'll leave a forwarding link in SRCDS for 5 days.

Bumping 3 times in an hour isn't going to help. That's a warning.

Please post the full command you are using for the install. Incluse where hlupdatetool is and the dir command.

1. The folder you install to has to EXIST already.
2. You used a trailing slash in the -dir command, don't use trailing slashed, they are bad for your health!

also make sure if there is a space in the dir path that you put quotes around the dir path.

try -command update -game "game" -dir "."
if not then delete the current .blob file and just have a plain folder with just hldsupdatetool
works for me.
