Can't Connect to own Source server
#1
So i have set a dedicated CSS server, my freinds can connect to it, i have a static IP, but i cannot connect to my own server on my PC for some reason, i think its something to do with a conflict with the host and client ports, but i dont know how to change the client port, i have tried the following start line

c:\SRCDS\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 66 -ip ************** -port 27075 -clientport 27050 -maxplayers 16 +map de_dust2

but it doesnt seem to work, the default 27005 port is used. how do i change the client port?

Don't play and host on the same computer.
There is a reason why it's called a DEDICATED server.

Again, you shouldn't play and host on the same computer. While some people might have found ways around this, it's really hit or miss. I would recommend putting the server on a different box (and more sure you are on a fast internet connection)

We don't hate people that do it, it's just so obvious that the program is not intended/made to run together with a game. The dedicated server is made to run on a computer/server machine that runs solely for programs with purposes like these.

In the launch options of your counter-strike source game...add this command to the launch options +hostport XXXXX "use either between 27005-27032, DO NOT USE 27020 (used for sourcetv etc.). Launch your game from the steam menu gaming tab. You can host and play on the same computer, but it's not typical to do it anyways. I only use this so I can test plugins and it's easier to customize.

I know you can, but it's hit and miss who can and cannot.

wait, if you cant join the server if you're using the same computer as the host, then can you join the server if the host is on a computer connected to the same network? [e.g. playing on a laptop when the dedicated server is being run on a desktop that is connected to the same internet]

Because you are running the server and playing on two totally different pieces of hardware. ...It's COMPLETELY different!
