Help out with my config
#1
Anyone willing to take a look at my CSS config? I'm trying to get as many people in a 100 tick as I can. I'm hoping for around 20ish. Anything that can be improved upon?

Running on a quad dual core Opteron @ 2.2 with Linux. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks

Looks fine to me in the server.cfg

You just have to see if one of your cores can hold up the tickrate and if you haven't already, you need to rebuild your kernel to 1000Hz to get your FPS up

is that why it's sticking at 166fps?

where to put server.cfg??

server.cfg goes to <install dir>/cstrike/cfg/server.cfg.

The 1000 fps thing is still weird. I have custom compiled kernel, which has:

Code:
CONFIG_HZ_100=y
CONFIG_HZ=100

Then if I set on my server "fps_max 1000", I get occasionally FPS over 900. So I don't think re-compiling is necessary to get to 1000 fps, but I'm not sure whether a 100 HZ kernel performs worse/better than a 1000 HZ kernel. For me the 100 HZ kernel performs better, because the physical server does more than just run the game server and 1000 HZ is straining it (system CPU stats go hey-hey with 1000 HZ kernel).

well I'm currently capped at 166.67 fps, so I'm assuming we need to recompile the kernel

Try first to change "fps_max 600" to your configs. Now you have "fps_max 300". I know 300 isn't the 166 what you're getting, but even if you set "fps_max 600", you'll end up having 500 or something like that.

If this doesn't work, then you probably need to recompile the kernel. I suggest that you try to find some pre-compiled kernel which you can install like any other program. That way you'll avoid breaking your system. Manually configuring, compiling and setting up boot loader is always risky business.
