CS:S Server CMD Rate Drops
#1
Firstly here are my specs...

Dual Core Xeon 3.0 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 100 MBPs

When I run my 40 slot CS:S server and it gets 30+ players the rates drop from 50-60 to 17-20. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Look at net_graph 3, when the server goes like 30/40

Seems to me you are just maxing out the CPU core.

That can't be right....its the only server running and it does that.

Also it does the same with 20/40 on de_port, and I see the cpu usage go to 50.

It can be right Smile

Since SRCDS is a single core processor (so 50% total means 1 core is 100%), it won't be able to use the other core too.
A pentium 4 based core maxes around 40-50 players these days. (spreading it over multiple servers will get you a bit more, running them all in 1 server just requires quite a lot of resources)

Won't make any difference with the player slots.

I agree with Drocona.

However, your only option would be to try and get the most out of your CPU. Try optimizing the system a little and see where that gets you.

Disable hyperthreading, can and will make a difference.
