server cant start
#1
Exclamation
I followed this guide http://www.srcds.com/db/engine.php?subaction=showfull&id=1097362093
and i've done every thing it says, but when i try to start it, it just comes up whith an Engine Error saying "Host_error: IDLLFunctions::DLLInit returned false" and then the server writes this http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/2889/serversshutdownrk8.png
and then it closes.
I run it on a win98 but some people says it can work on it, while others says it can't.
I have no idea how to fix this, so if anyone can help me, i would be very happy.

SRCDS dropped support for windows 98 quite some years ago, I don't think it works anymore.

Also I don't really see the benefit of running it on '98, I doubt performance will be any good to be honest. If you have an XP install cd somewhere, just install that, if the computer isn't capable of running XP the computer isn't fast enough to run SRCDS anyway.

The reason i use 98 is because i don't have any other xp than the one i have on my "main" computer.
But yes, the computer can run xp, i just don't have any to install on it, and I don't want to buy a new one just for that.

Just put the XP installation cd into the win 98 server and install it, it's not like when you have it on 1 computer it can't be installed on another, I think I have ~7 computers here running XP all installed from one same cd.

maybe. but i still need a key for it, and to get that i have to buy a new copy.
And im changing from win98 to linux, that should take care of the problem.

For XP it's about 2 or 3 installs a year are allowed.
Then you've gotta call and bitch at MS.

I seriously never "register" my XP installation, it's crap. And the license thing is complete bullshit from Microsoft's side (LOL it just auto-corrected microsoft to be typed with a capital M!!).

It's not illegal what I do, I paid for it and it says nowhere you can not install it without registering, they even give you the choice when you install "do you want do register this product now?" simply press no.

Just be sure not to download that windows genuine advantage crap, cause that one will moan if you haven't registered...
That means, don't set the auto install on the updates, set it so you can select which ones you want to install.
