Looking for slots per core
#1
Here's the rig

4 x Dual Core Opteron 875s (8 total cores @ 2.2)
8GB DDR2
2x 32GB SCSI drives

I won't be able to test in practice until the end of april, but what would be a rough estimate of how many slots I could get in a 100 tick CSS server without a severe drop in tick?

well, that may be if srcds used multiple cores, but on a single CSS server, thus single core, what would your guess be? Smile

Well if you know what you are doing and depending on how the OS is configured you can get maybe 26 slots @ 100 tickrate. I wouldn't count on it, 18 is what we generally see as the maximum amount of slots for a 100 tickrate server

Well I've been running dedicated servers for a couple years, but it's always been on windows. We're probably going to be running this box on SUSE or Debian. Any tips? I've never configured a linux server, so I'm not sure what is different.

I never did either, since I know windows I see no use even trying to run Linux really. Except of course when it's in a business environment, windows server licenses are pretty expensive.
