33 tick zombie server stuttering!
#1
I am currently running a zombie server, it was running at 66 tick but now I've decided to step it down to 33 tick because it seems a bit of a waste.

The problem I am having with 33 tick is I seem to get this stuttering when the server gets above 25ish players. This is running on a Q6600 with 4GB ram in a datacentre london with unlimited bandwidth. All my other CSS servers are fine!

Net_graph 3 brings up some worrying stats.

Out - This varies from 200 - 500
In - about 70
Choke - 0 - 15!

Here are the current rate settings:

// bandwidth rates/settings
sv_minrate 5000
sv_maxrate 25000
sv_maxupdaterate 34
sv_minupdaterate 10
sv_mincmdrate 10
sv_maxcmdrate 34
sv_unlag 1
sv_maxunlag 1

Any ideas guys? Thanks for any help in advance.

I'd be interested to see the solution to this. Could you post your solution here after you've solved the problem?

My suggestion is to reset server.cfg and game config.cfg. Do not start server with -tickrate 33 but let it go as default. That way you'll get back to "clean" system regarding especially all the rate configs. Re-install from *scratch* is the best, because you're not trying to reach anything more special than just zombiemod with pretty much default settings.

Valve warns using anything else than the default tickrate with mods in their Wiki. Zombiemod is not "mod" per se, but it might qualify as error prone modification Smile

PS. If you can't get help from untouchable, you could find big zombie mod server from http://www.game-monitor.com or http://www.gametracker.com and contact those server admins. They might have had the same problem with big zombie server.

It could mean that the server is under heavy stress from the players... Also maybe lowering max rate to 9999 sometimes could help, but you do have unlimited bandwidth. It could be the NPCs.. ?

To be honest, I don't think there's a zombieserver that does NOT stutter, it's a very heavy mod, running above 33 tick isn't recommended anyway.

Lol.

This is old....I capped it to fps_max 100 in the end...it seems a lot better and a lot smoother than any other zombie server I know of.
