TF2 Server update...nothing happens
#1
Hi there, need some help here. I got my tf2 to work out quite nice.
When I start the server I get the message that restart server to update it.
So I try ./steam -command update -game tf
./steam -command update -game tf -dir /path/to/tf/server
./steam -command -update -game tf -dir xx -verify_all -retry
And all possible combinations I can think of here. But everytime I get:
Quote:Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Notthing happens, I have waited a few days with -retry on, with no respons.

Can some of you point me in the right direction?
And again, this worked fine before, and the server still works, I just can`t update with the latest patches.

I use Kubuntu 7.10

try deleting your installrecord.blob
should be in the same directory as steam.

Have tried that, then the message "No installation record found at ..." appears, and notthing more happens, when i shut down the process ctrl+c a new version of installrecord.blob is in the folder.

is the directory you're installing to full?
On our server, I had to reinstall it, cuz we wanted to use the home dir for the servers, but the host only put like 5 gigs on it. Sad

Have atleast 10gb free space. So I would belive that is enough space.

edit.
If I remove installrecord.blob, and then run ./hldsupdatetool first, then run ./steam -command update -game tf and so on.
I get
Quote:Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 27 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Downloading. . . . . . . . . . . .
Steam Linux Client updated, please retry the command
But when I run the command again, nothing happens, like I described in my first post.

i have the solution for you.. first, go to your hlserver folder and delete InstallRecord.blob. Now go to start, run, type in cmd then enter then type in c:\HLServer\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir c:\HLServer
this will take awhile and at first it will say no information in c:/hlserver/orangebox or something. Just wait and DO NOT X OUT OF IT! thats what i did and i could not figure out how to update it for awhile. So do that, wait for awhile and it should start updating Big Grin. After its done, launch up the server and you are done. Congratz! Big Grin

Umm sorry to burst the bubble but he is using linux not windows. lol No start button. How long do you wait after running the command after deleteing your installrecord.blob? Its normal for it to say no installation record at . but once it runs through that it will actually begin the download. If not it will either timeout or show an error.
*Windows lack of output*
You: Hey, I want to run this program!
Windows: Ok.. It crashed... Now what? Give up?
You:...wtf...
*linux output helpful?*
You: ./My_program
Linux:...Failed!...oo kitties!
You:...wtf...

Im getting this problem too, its really a huge issue since i have clan match tonight. I have tried...

Deleting the server entirely and re-installing
Installing a fresh server in another folder
Re-installing the update tool
checked permissions
run as multiple users, i.e. root and another user with sudo capability

Its definately an issue with HLDSupdatetool.

I got this problem and managed to fix it. What i did was i just reinstalled hldsupdatetool:

- Delete steam/hldsupdatetool.bin/Installrecord.blob/Clientregistry.blob
- Re-download hldsupdatetool.bin (same dirrectory as where you deleted it)
- Chmod it. chmod -x hldsupdatetool.bin
- Run it. ./hldsupdatetool.bin
- Run ./steam
- Say yes.
- Run ./steam -blah -blah +flag

Then it should start working again.

Dont delete any orangebox/hl2 directories. Theyre not whats causing the problem.

Now i get stuck at , getting version 34 of hldsupdatetool. Ive opened a thread to steam, informing them of the issue since its not a user-based issue. I will inform in this thread what they respond if anyone is interested.

Well the hldsupdatetool commando worked now and its up to date. But, same issue when i try the

./steam -command update -game tf -dir . -retry

Just stuck at updating installation again, ive been doing this four about 3 hours now, will have to continue tmrw i guess...

No response from steam on the thread i opened, regarding this problem.

If anybody seem to find a workaround or get any information from steam for us experiencing this problems please inform us. Over and out , good night
