Xeon with srcds Info?
#1
I heard alot about people having some errors or server not running well using xeon cpu's. I have a 1U server running two quad core xeons
and always see a few people talking about them. Does anyone have more info on them they would like to share? I'm just trying to find out more info on this.
Also how much more cpu do bots use up rather then players?
Just trying to run a few tests on my server. I had 28 bots on one of the servers last night cpu usage maxed around 60% at some times, most of the times it was around 30-40 also fps sometimes dropped down from 330 to around 80fps I noticed I never had it running on it's own core so could that be why fps and cpu usage had spikes?
Just trying to get more info on the xeons because I am thinking about buying a few more servers in the next few months.

Bots use WAY more resources than normal players, CPU usage increases exponentially (REAL FAST) with every bot you add.

Hold on to that getting more servers, see if this xeon works first Smile

Yeah, thats what I am thinking. Smile
I would hate to spend more money if it runs like crap.
So 28 bots using 60% cpu is that pretty good?

The CPU is ok I think but it's the FPS you get that makes me shiver

Hmm, it also scares me... Sad
I don't have taskset on it yet if that changes anything.
Also not sure if I should make a custom kernel (still noob with linux so might not be good)

330 should be enough anyway, as long as it's higher than 100 you can run anything.

So the odd times when I tested it and it droped to 80fps for a hair second I should not be to scared?
It dropped when all 28 bots went long A on dust2. Other then that it seems to stay around 330.

Then it's perfectly fine, every now and then the FPS can drop a bit but you won't notice a thing ingame.

Just saying my $.02. Remember how we couldnt figure out why the registration of different servers would be different? Im pretty sure its because of fluctuating FPS because when I dont set affinites so my FPS spikes high and low, I get much worse registration then when I set affinites and my FPS barely fluctuates. So then again it could be affinites Wink. But bots make haywire of FPS so those FPS make sense Smile

P.S. DONT FLAME ME PLEASE Smile It's just my theory.

We're running Xeon dual core 3.2 Ghz ... 2 servers 16 slots 66 ticks ... and registration is terrible and FPS drops quite often bellow 66. And this is with real players connected ... And CPU usage isnt above 70% for each core ... But we just don't get much more out of it ....

Just my experience ...
