Extend number of players
#1
Hello all,

Lately, I;ve tryed to extend my number of players on server (from 32 to 64) but evrytime I try to type srcds.exe -game cstrike -tickrate 66 +maxplayers 64, the server disappears from the servers browser.
Can anyone tell me how to extend number of players?

Thanks,
Raven

I think the advertised limit for maxplayers in CSS is 32. Valve blocked the hcaked 32 slot TF2 servers from showing up in the server list, so it makes sense for them to do it in CSS too.

There are still servers available with 64 players, however I don't know how to "hack it"

Then again, even if you hack it, there's no server that's gonna run 64 players in 1 server regardless of the tickrate.

Actually, if I find a way to extend number of players, I can extend to 256 max, thats what my server is capable of (we use 1GB inet upload/download).

Also I saw there are 64 slots servers. According to what i understood you should launch server in console mode, but whenever im doing it, it doesnt appears anymore in servers browser.

Does anyone has idea how to make it appear?

Thanks,
Raven

Bandwidth isn't the problem with these big servers, bandwidth you can buy.
processor power however is not available, there is no core that can run 64 players in 1 server.

doesn't matter how many cores, srcds is single threaded at this time. i have seen 64 player servers, you do need to run mods to add spawn points on almost every map. some are actually pretty smooth to play on if you don't mind all the grenade spam and things like that.

SRCDS isn't optimized yet for multi-core, but that doesn't stop Windows doing load balancing between all cores.

The high slot, high tickrate servers i've played on have (mainly) no problems holding a stable tickrate. I even ran a 64 slot 100 tick CSS server at a LAN to test how a quad core extreme would handle, and we never had a problem..

And this talk about SRCDS can only use one core at a time and can't run high slots on high tickrate is just bullshit in my opinion - or in my dealings with them anyway. Maybe, its just a completely different case when introducing the server to the internet for bandwidth reasons.. (more towards player BW).

As fqdn said, there are 64 player servers out there that are smooth! There will be servers out there with the hardware to run them stable.

I will appreciate if you'll give me advice how to make it play smoothly. I try now 100 tick but its kinda unstable (I suspect probles in server inet-have no physical acceses to it).

Actuallly its simple. All tou gotta do is to type in cmd
cd (srcds dir).
srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map (map name) -maxplayers 64 -tickrate (the tickrate) -autoupdate

Then the server will have 64 players Smile

No, if there ever is a CS:S update, you will have to manually update it.
You can start a server with -autoupdate... it just don't do anything under windows.

Please do not PM me for server related help
