TF2 server problems
#1
Been trying to get myself a tf2 server going...

Followed the srcds.com guide and found myself stuck.
At the exact point where things should run by going to command and typing in "c:srcds\srcds.exe" etc. Windows says it cannot find srcds.exe for whatever reason.

I did all steps yet theres no srcds.exe anywhere....

Little help please Smile

K. tried restarting the whole guide process...

I never get a srcds.exe file in the c:\srcds\ folder...

Is,

hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Team Fortress 2" -dir C:\srcds

the correct line to enter into the run cmd?

For the c:\srcds\tf2\cfg\server.cfg text doc i used a guide on these forums for. Btw is creating a c:\srcds\tf2\.... the right way to do it?

And again, once i get to c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game tf2 +map cp_dustbowl -maxplayers 24 -autoupdate There is no srcds.exe

All help is so appreciated, thanks. Smile

EDIT: Ya, you're are doing everything wrong. I'm note sure where you fold the turtorial you are using but all those commands and paths are bogus.

First off, I would recommend you just give this a try: SRCDS-OneTouch-tf2

If you'd rather do it you're self...

Don't make any folder yourself, the installer makes what is needed.

To install, CD to where ever hldsupdatetool is located.
Then run this command:
Code:
hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf -dir c:\srcds

Then to run, CD to c:\srcds\orangebox\
then run this command:
Code:
srcds.exe -console -game tf +map cp_dustbowl -maxplayers 24 -autoupdate

That should work.

Wow thats an awesome tool Smile Thanks so much!

Says that the server is up and running, yet on my other computer i can't find it on the list. Does it take a while to be added? To connect do i just go in-game and type connect (master server ip) into console? Or can i not join it cause i'm on the same router? And the command for changing the map would be awesome, thanks man!

Edit: Also, to keep this server up do i need to have steam running? Or is it completely stand alone? Thanks again!

stand alone if you did it my way.
you can connect via LAN.
for other to join you need to forward your ports.

TF2 ports to forward are 27010 to 27015, correct? Tried disabling everything, even DMZ.

Getting a couple exec:couldn'ts in this console log

exec: couldn't exec skill1.cfg
exec: couldn't exec banned_user.cfg
banned_ip.cfg
cp_dustbowl.cfg

I'm starting to just think that this whole process/server creating isn't too Linksys router friendly... :/

More ports are needed. Search around for that Smile

As for those errors. 100% Normal. SRCDS LOVES errors. It throws errors like it's getting paid to do so! Most of the time you don't have to worry about them.

The errors you posted are normal, don't worry about them.

Well i've tried just about everything. Opened more ports, did portforwarding.com router stuff, still not doing the trick. This computer running the server is XP and the one trying to connect is vista, although once the server is made i don't think that matters.

Can't think of what the problem is now, absolutely puzzled to death...

It's the router, if it doesn't forward the ports other people can't connect.
Did you try setting DMZ to the server?
If it doesnt work try to update the firmware.

If that doesn't work either you need a new router that does work.

I have tried DMZing my router, that didn't work.

If theres a way to DMZ specifically the server itself (i'm guessing in the server.cfg or something) i don't know how.

But yeah, the only problem here seems to be the stupid router...

Your problem is same problem many people have around here.
You lack understanding of basic networking.

In your router you should be able to DMZ a local IP address.
On your server, open a command prompt and type in: ipconfig
DMZ THAT local IP address. Most likely it will start with either 192.168.0. or 192.168.1.
