What OS are you running?
Are you running any firewalls?
Are you running any virus scanners?
Do you have full admin over the computer?

While I use avast on my desktop, I've heard problems about avast thinking that SRCDS is a Trojan. Try disabling avast and trying then

Thanks for sticking with me on this. I did try to disable avast, but it had no effect. My next step is a complete uninstallation of avast, which I will try as soon as I reboot into windows (I use ubuntu linux mainly).

I've used avast for years together with the SRCDS, it's part of my base install, never had problems.

Just to make it 100% clear, I LOVE avast.
I have is installed on ever computer I own and ever computer my family uses.
But I remember reading in these forums that some people have had problems with it.
EDIT: Just to help us out more, can you post:
1) Your start-up command
2) The Computer's CPU

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I would love to post my startup line, but somehow i messed up my xp install and now the login screen never fully loads, so now i can't even get into windows. I am researching the issue right now, and as soon as it is fixed, i can post that information for you. By the way, the processor is a Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33ghz overclocked to 2.45ghz.
Edit: Here is my startup line, using a default map for DoD:S
srcds.exe -console -game dods +map dod_kalt +maxplayers 14

After doing some googling, i found this thread:http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/2198
in which drocona seems to have the same issue. After reading this thread, i realized that it was the game command that was messing it up, and after taking off the s from dods, it worked flawlessly. Thanks everyone for you help.

Dude, i seem to have the same problem....i got a server running with mani and gungame4....works perfectly. I LOVE IT. but the problem is, I went to install srcds on my buddy's computer and downloaded everything the same way as i did on my computer and nothing. I click on srcds like i do on my computer and the GUI will not com up!! I dont know what to do cause I hate trying to use the console. PLEASE help me figure out how to get the srcds GUI working and the program actually come up like it does on my computer. Everything is downloaded and updated correctly, i checked it 10 times and tried to even update and it said HLDS up to date. i even deleted and re-installed completely 4 times.

You can't click the SRCDS.exe anymore, make a shortcut to it and add like -game cstrike +map gg_xxxx and it should start up in GUI.
