How Many Servers Could I Get..........
#1
Option 1:
# AMD Athlon™ 64 3500+
# 1GB RAM
# 1 x 160GB HD
# 10Mbit Transfer

Option 2:
# AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4200+
# 1GB RAM
# 1 x 160GB HD
# 10mbit Transfer

I am hoping to get a few servers out of this (I am going to purchase a dedicated server), I am hoping I would be able to get 2-3 or maybe even 4 servers out of it, but I dunno.. what I have been reading it seems it takes a pretty beefy computer to run a decent, high tick'd server.

So basically, I suppose my question is: How many TF2 servers could I get out of both of those options? -- Thanks a lot for all your help!

Well normal slots...you could probably get 60 100 tickrate servers max...pushing it. The second option around 60-70. Now for TF2, it takes way more resources but Im not sure exactly how much. Now the 10mbit, i think you mean per secound?, and if you do, that limits you to at max 50 100 tickrate slots in use at one time.

I read somewhere that the tickrate was limited to 66 in TF2, True of False?

So if I upgraded to 100mbit/s I would be able to have 500 100 tickrate servers? Or am I doing this math horribly wrong..

TF2 is limited to a tickrate of 66.

Those CPU's will never be able to handle more than 80 players total
I guess it's around 40 slots per core @ 100 tick for old source games.

For orangebox taking 50% should be a rough average (so 20 slots per core @ 66 tick)

The 2nd processor, i have it, and i can run 3-20 slot 100 tickrate servers fine, with apache and team speak and the cpu is at 80%. So the 2nd one could prolly get 70.

So are you disagreeing with Drocona then? He's saying 40 slots and you are saying 70.. ahh everyone is different!

Okay let me add this, which I believe is better than my previous "Option 2", for the same price:

# 2 x AMD Opteron 246 2.0GHz
# 1GB RAM
# 1 x 160GB HD

btw-this is for Team Fortress 2, so please please pleaseeeee if you post numbers or your examples or anything relate them to TF2 someway, because from what I have been reading the numbers are quite different.

Drocona was talking PER CORE, so that would be 80 total... but this is NOT Orange Box.

Orange box uses a lot more power. All I know is that I run ONE TF2 server with 24 slots and no fps-boost on a 3.0GHz P4 and it will run as high as 70% or 80% when full.

Intel Core 2 is better
Go with a 2.66 with 1333 fsb , 2 gigs of ddr2 800 + Ram, Dedicated Video and a 250 gig + SATA 3.0 HDD
