TF2 Server Problem
#1
Sad
Alright, im a bit of a n00b, but i know a little of what im doing! im ade a dod:s server and it worked fine, but this tf2 server poses a problem... I downloaded, updated, created the icon on my desktop and added the command line to it... i made the cfg file using one i found on here for the layout, then i forwarded ports and what not, then i added 2 mds... tftrue for no crits, and mani beta... i dont know what is wrong but i thought it could be mani... my server connects and everything, i type heartbeat, i only get the one error that says the 2fort cfg wont load, but i thought it works without that... i give ppl the ip from whatismyip.com and they try to connect and its a no go... any ideas/help/suggestions? anything would be much appreciated! thanks in advance!

You don't need truetf to disable all crits. Just add this line to your start-up command:
Code:
+tf_damage_critical_chance 0.0

Please do not PM me for server related help

easiest way is too DMZ your server.

DMZ, simple talk (Dont yell at me Muppet Toungue) opens all ports to the specified ip address.

Yes - it is insecure. Dont take the DMZ easy route, unless you have to.

I would take it. As long as you have a firewall, you would be fine. Just dont believe you are invincible.

????
Going into DMZ is removing your hardware firewall... And are you sure you want to run a software firewall on a game server?? Inspecting every single UDP packet will add latency...

DMZ is on your router, not your hardware firewall, so your hardware firewall still functions perfectly. Of course you need a firewall if you are hosting a game server or any type of server! If you are talking about a hardware firewall (never have heard of that but i havent heard of many things) yeah thats insecure but I was talking about his router.

Your router IS your hardware firewall. The DMZ option in your router forwards all traffic without inspection, hence you have no protection - unless you run a software firewall, which as I said, is not a good idea on a game server.
