I'm going insane with this

Question
I want to know all the requirements you need to start an online dedicated server.

I have done:
- Installation of srcds
- Updated with hldsupdatetool
- No router so no needed port forwarding
- Allowed the neccessary ports through McAfee and Windows Firewall (27011 UDP and TCP)
- Server is set up correctly (have tested) with custom map and deathmatch mod.

What I know I haven't done:
- I don't think Mani Admin Plug-in installed correctly as when I type "admin" into the client console it is an unrecognized command.

So I've basically set up the server but it only appears with a local IP and in the LAN tab of the server browser. I have tried the sv_lan 0 and ip xxx.xxx.xx.xx port 27011 commands. I'm using the command prompt infterface, not the GUI.

Also this is a bit of what the server says:
Connection to Steam servers successful.
VAC secure mode is activated.
Adding master server xx.xx.xxx.xxx:27011
Adding master server xx.xx.xxx.xxx:27011

This is my first server I'm setting up on my home PC (Vista) and it's driving me crazy lol. Thanks in advance Smile

If it's starting up on an internal Ip it means you have a gateway or a router which means you need to forward port.
Also you will always see it as a LAN server, others see it as internet if it gets through the gateway/router.

So even though I can't find it on Gamemonitor.com other's can still see it online?
I don't know what's wrong with it because I don't have a router - don't know what a gateway is though. I've allowed it through my firewall.

Ok i'll ask it this way:

How is your network setup and how are you connected to the internet?

And no, if you don't see it at gametiger/monitor, it won't be online

I have a direct connection to the internet through my modem. In my Network bit of the control panel it says:

What type of cable comes out of the modem and what IP address do you get when you type this in cmd:

ipconfig /all

(You can start up cmd by going start->run "cmd")

I thought I'd mention now that I just got a router today, but the server is on the PC that has the direct connection to the internet and not a client of wireless.

Is this one from above the PC with teh server? if so there is actually a router/modem with built in networking security in front of it, if it was actually directly on the internet the IP should show up as 192.168.0.1 or the external IP found here: http://www.whatismyip.com

So there has to be something in between else you do not get these addresses you have now.

To find out what, go to 192.168.0.1 with your browser and see what you get

Ya but it seems as if you had the router in the first place.....If you had a direct connection threw your cable modem it should be fine unless your cable modem has some type of built in firewall which I have never seen before, but who knows...

If he has a router, he does not have a direct connection

You have to forward your ports OR DMZ the server.

Also: Why do you also have a IPv6 Address!?
