srcds.exe gui doesn't load

Whenever I try to execute the executable alone without commands so I can get the GUI, it doesn't load. I double click on the executable and it doesn't load.
Another question, when I install the Srcds server from steam, there is no configuration file, where is it?

in regards to your question about the server.cfg - there isnt one, u have to make ur own ^_^

im having the same problem with the gui but only for counter-strike: source. the TF2 srcds gui loads fine and i just installed srcds with the hldsupdatetool thingo to find the little command prompt box for CSS works fine as well (which i spose is fine, i just dont like the fact that i have a problem i cant fix).

anyways i dont really know much about computers *LOL NOOB LOL*, but im not the sort of person whos too lazy to try to sort out their own problems. ive tried a couple of things to fix this myself.
looked around steam support page & forums to no avail
full reinstall of steam platform incl deleting all registry entries & prefetch
full reinstall of source dedicated server from steam tools menu
loading TF2 dedicated server from the steam list then changing it to CS:S when little config box appears cos in my steam folder theres source dedicated server and source dedicated server 2007. yeh i know that one was a long shot but the problem doesnt make sense either so i was like w/e worth a shot.

source dedicated server worked about 6 weeks ago but it seems one of the recent updates a few weeks back fkd it

No gui here either when launching srcds.exe with no parameters (on a 2k3 server). Not a big deal since I plan on using the console full time; just wanted to try it out.

Really really dont bother with the GUI. Way way too much resources for something not very special. Try running hldsupdatetool but with verify_all as one of the commands.

Just use HLSW instead of the GUI if needed.

where do i put server.cfg

SRCDSinstallpath\<modfolder>\cfg\server.cfg

You can launch GUI if you really want to by using the full commandline just like with the console, only thing you have to do is remove "-console" and it will start up in GUI.

omg thanks spartanfrog and drocona i got the GUI to fire up by doing the update tool using verify_all and then removing -console from the run commands on the shortcut
but it still wont start from my steam tools menu LOL
i spose ill go find the thread i posted in on steam forums and see if this will help anyone out.
i think wat we learned here is - steam is totally fkd, avoid it at all costs.

still who cares, i can now boot up my own 100 tick deathmatch server to prac on and it runs bloody mint
also ill take ur advice bout not using the GUI, it really doesnt do anything anyways now that i look at it lol

and why on earth do u limit ur avatars to a maximum of 10x10 pixels? shouldnt that be 100x100 pixels? i cant get my avatar uploaded :o

not sure about the avatars really, when I joined in 2005 it was 100x100?
