I wouldn't try to run any production server on an OS that's still in the RC stages.

happy New Year every body! -)

well i tested it
in standart install win 2k8 eats ~500mb
in core eats ~300
-(
not realy good
2k3 eats about ~200

may in 2k8 there are some new features about resources managment or something, i don't know

about server FPS - same as at 2k3
may be there will be different at final release?!

I doubt it; Server 2008 is based on the Vista core, which we all know is bigger than the moon.

I dont understand why 2k8 would make a differance in FPS anyways....The old windows server could hit 1000 fps with windows media player open just fine. Does WMP being open bother everyone that much???

Along with that 1000Fps is not needed and 500 runs wayy better, or atleast in my opinion.

The reason older processors could get higher FPS out of the box was because of they didnt have safety restrictions newer processors have now.

What exactly do you mean by that, my old celeron in my backup desktop can hold 1000Fps just fine, along with that my Core 2 Duo can hold it just fine also....

No, not that newer processors cant hold it, its that older processors get it right out of the box some cases. Out-of-the-box, I meant by no tweaking. The newer processors have safetys built in so the chip doesnt burn out and other things like that.

It's my understanding the Multi Processor ACPI driver for windows is what prevents the FPS from going higher. I've heard that if you switch to the regular ACPI driver (which only will use one core which is a waste) will allow you get higher fps. I've never tried it myself, don't care about 1000 fps, it may not be correct.

But as VRDriver said, 1000 fps isn't necessary. It's a just a ploy from gameserver companies to further squeeze more money from you.
