I am currently costing out how much it will be for me 2 set up a game server company, i have already got costing for a connection and everything else but for the server i want to host 200-400 slots running cs:s @ 66 tick and was wondering what kind of server or servers i would need to run this ,i was thinking about getting a poweredge 1950 from dell with 2 quad core's going at 2.33Ghz with 8Gb of bufferd ram but i dunno if thats to much or way to less , would be great if you guys could help me owt, thanks Big Grin
p.s. whats the diff between xp pro and server 2003 if running just cs:s servers?

200 can be done with the poweredge, 400 you need 2 of them.


ps. can you tell me what connection you have?

Server 2003 handles remote-access differently so multiple users can be logged in at once. This is useful when running servers.

I also heard that srcds is more optimised for Windows.

That is correct, guys at valve are not much of linux programmers Smile

In the end it's really just what you prefer... there is no noticeable difference between Linux and Windows

doesn't matter how fast you are if the providers are junk, who are your bandwidth providers?

that's great, but who does the fiber connect to? no not the switch in the corner, who provides the bandwidth? or even better what is an ip that is live now so we can see what routes the packets will take.
