Hey Everyone,

Yes another question about server specs.... I am running in to an issue with my current quad core machine. It seems to run all the public servers okay but unfortunately every now and then, it seems the larger public server can generate lag on the 100tk match serrvers. Im now considering getting a second box just for our match & I was wondering what specs I would need to do 40 slots at 100tk?

2 x 10 slot CSS 100tk servers
2 x 12 slot DODS 100tk servers

Now there are never all full at the same time, but its not uncommon for two of them to be full. I dont want to 'overkill' it on the box specs but at the same time, I dont want any lag on these servers.

Wait do you wanna know for 40 slots or 44 slots?
I'll go with the 44 one . Neglecting bandwidth, you should be fine with a P4 3.2 Ghz with 1 gig of ram. You might be able to squeeze with 512 Mb of ram but it could lag and even squeeze by with a 2.8 ghz proccessor but it still could lag at points.

I'd try a little bit faster, get a cheap dual core proc (like low E6xxx or alike), they are just as expensive as the P4 but they can put more power in. A P4 3.2GHz will run around 90% CPU when those are full, maybe even a little higher, what you want at those 100tick servers is to never get CPU above 85% really.

Because at that point the CPU's start "sharing" and that will lower the FPS on all your server causing spikes or lag, FPS just drops

Yeah just bad valve programming I guess, just like bandwidth usage...

when the CPU goes over 80% performance starts dropping
when the bandwidth gets to 90% of max, the ping starts increasing.
