Hosting multiple games/servers on one machine.
#1
Hello, I just purchased a dedicated server from softlayer.com and I want to run mulitple games and servers on my box.

I also want to set it up so that I do not have install css into like 3 different places if I want to run 3 servers, but I also want the server files (maps, addons, sounds, etc) to be different for the 3 servers. So i dont have to run HLDS 3 times and take up a lot of my server space, how do I go at doing this....
lets say I want to have a seperate folder on my machine for each IP address that server will use, and if I want I want to be able to change the game, but just changing a few folders/files in that IP folder.

I hope this makes sense, and any feedback would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Charles

There are two ways of doing things on windows:

1. Run every server from the same install, this saves space, however both servers will use the same mods (if they run the same games)

2. Have an install for every separate server, this will use much more space but it gives you more options and "freedom" in configuring the server.

If you are running a dedicated server I think they at least come with 80gigs of diskspace? This is more than enough really since 3 separate server installs use 1.5gb each at max (Just estimate, I don't know all mods of HL2) so that leaves more than 75 gigs of space on the disk.

so would you suggest the best way to do this would be to make a folder for each server IP i have and do a full css install into that folder?

just install it once and copy the folder do 3 different places (or however many installs). that way you don't have to wait for the full install 3+ times. then do -autoupdate at the end of the start line for each server, however if you're running sourcemm it will replace the modified gametypes.txt file so you should keep a copy of that handy. once you get the hang of it it's real easy.
