TF2 server using way too much resources?

I'm trying to run a TF2 dedicated server on an Athlon 3800+ @ 2.5Ghz with 2GB ram on a 20M/5M connection. For some reason it maxes out the core it runs on when only 12 people are one it. Surely this is not normal?

yes, lots. I don't know why... maybe it's because I'm running xp64?

64 bit won't matter, is it the srcds.exe that's using 100% CPU?
Do you have any plugins installed maybe?

Yes, it's using 50% cpu (100% of 1 of 2 cores), no plugins...

Hmm not much I can think of but what tickrate are you running?

and are you sure it's not in some power save mode?

I've had a such a problem.
Set the tickrate to 66 and DON'T boost FPS, that made a lot of problems.

Well, I sorted it out by installing XP32. Not the best solution, but it works.

Only problem now is figuring out how to change maps with rcon without the server dropping everybody...

or levelchange... I always forget.

Try out Beetle's Mod, it's AWESOME for TF2.

I find mine is getting these really large cpu usage spikes. it will be at 16%, then jump to 68% for a second. Its causing lag server wide when it happens of course, not sure whats up

Can you find out if it happens with a certain event ingame?
