Host and Play On Same Machine

I want to host a deticated server and be able to play on the same computer. I have dual 2.4 ghts and 2 gb ram nivida gforce 8600 512 mb grafics i want to make it work on here then i gunna put it on my bros quad core 2.4 dual 320mb 8800 gts or something comp. I know hosting and playing on same comp is bad for decticated servers but i want too. Please help me.

I don't understand what you want help with?
You set up a server and then you start up the game. However you probably want to make a small server and run the game on lower stats so the server has the resources to run well with minimal lag.

I have a 5000+ Am2 CPU x2, 2GB Kingstone Ram (800Mhz) and an 8800GTS 640MB superClocked and I can run a 16 player server with very little lag with about 5 scripts on. My upload speed is only 600kb/s aswell...

My friend's friend has a really kickass alienware computer. He can run a 20 slot Gmod server with no lag. And play on it.

O :/ I am quite an idoit alot of the time. I want to be able to play and host oin the same comp. When i try to play on any server with ma server going i can not connect :/.

Seems like the server is running on the exact same port as your game, try adding -port 27016 to the server startupline

Did you try a random port? like 40000 or something high up there (assuming your ISP doesn't block those)
Also, could it possibly be a router issue?

Can you connect to other game's servers while running your own? Can you still connect to a server when your not running your own?
