It shouldn't cost you that much to get a new processor. Well, that depends what you consider too much. I just purchased the parts for my new in house server for gaming, web and files.
I got an Athlon X2 3800+, 2 GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 (it was on sale), 160 GB Seagate, DVD Burner, Onboard video, sound, Gigabit LAN, and it all fits in a nice little micro ATX case by Antec with good airflow, dividers and cushioning for reducing the sound. All that, for $490 Canadian including tax and shipping.
Still, I think it would be wise to email Valve and see if the lack of SSE is really the problem. I think they also intend to move all the other Source games to this new Source engine as well, so it could screw up your CS:S server. Might want to double check that too.
