TF2 DS Console Issues
#1
I go through all the basic stuff of setting up the server, hldsudatetool until the installation of the server files are complete.

I then generate the shorcut to the executable (srcds) and type in the basic command to start the server:
C:\tf\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf +maxplayers 20 blah bla..

This is the point where I have issues, starting the server like I do the other 4 i have on this box (CS:S Servers) and it just does nothing. I have triple checked everything and reinstalled at least 4 times and have even made sure the other servers on the box still work (they do)..

Any suggestions would be awsome! Thanks

Try something like:

Code:
"C:\tf\orangebox\srcds.exe" -console -game tf +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort -port 27015

The properties of your shortcut, under 'Target' should look like that, including the ""'s unless you are running a .bat file.

For entertainment value i tried applying the quotations about 6 times, they will not even take effect when pushing the apply button.

Any other suggestions?? Keep them coming..

Does anything happen if you do not run your custom shortcut and use the GUI?

Yes - you know the srcds.exe icon that you used to make your shortcut? Well your shortcut contains the -console modifier. If you use the installed srcds.exe icon it should take you to the GUI interface. I'm just curious if that gets any different results.

I made the install from the hldsupdatetool and yes there is a srcds.exe in the C:\tf\orangebox folder that generated the shortcut from as always.

To answer your question, when double clicking on that executable (srcds) i get zero as i do from the shortcut.

Problem is all the other servers i have work fine as always, im stumped.. =/

You still need the commandline to start up GUI, only remove the -console switch Smile You can't double click.

Sadly that does nothing as well.... You click on the srcds and it does zero, little hourglass for about 1 second and nothing, spam click it; nothing still.. Im out of ideas.

It's like a dead srcds.exe, having installed 10 times (fresh) and removing that executable (srcds.exe) at least 6 times in addition you think that would fix the issue; it doesnt.

Ok i think i found something. I started digging through the files and cross referencing files from the CSS Scrim Server (working) with files from the d/l for the new TF Server.

I found that there are .dll files in the bin directory that are 0 kb, im sure this is causing some issues so im doing the -verify_all yet again..

adminserver.dll 0 kb. nice.

When i do the -verify_all and the connection times out it seems its looping back to the start and verifying the same files again.. Anyone confirm this or possibly give me some direction on how to do it properly.

\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir c:\tf -verify_all
