#1
Trying to get a TF2 server going and when I launch it I get the error:

"Failed to load the launcher dll. The specified procedure could not be found."

Any help with this would be appreciated.

I'm still getting this error. I just reinstalled the DS to see if that would help but it did not.

When I try to run it through the run command I get this message first:

"The procedure entry point ThreadWaitForObjects could not be located in the dynamic link library tier0.dll"

That is followed by the error located in my first post.

I cant get the TF2 server to download this is the error I get
Quote:Cannot open blob archive file: CMultiFieldBlob(mem-mapped file): File does not e
xist and failed to create new file

This is the command I am running to download it. I think everything it ok with it. I used the same one to download a CS:S server I just changed the location and game name.

C:\srcds\HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game tf -dir C:\TF2server

I too am having this same issue, it just started with in the past 2 days.
When trying to install DOD, so i was like whats go on here now, so i attempted to run the css.bat & got the same thing.

I have tested this on 4 different machines 2 that have never had any games of any kind ever installed on them & one was a fresh install of XP-pro as well as up on the server, dual xeon 2 gig ram 1u rack mount also an XP-pro rigg.

Changing folder permissions has no effect.
At this point im at a total loss.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

This is CSS update its worked fine for more then a year, untill now.

"Cannot open blob archive file: CMultiFieldBlob(mem-mapped file): File does not exist and failed to create new file"

I got that one too. But the error went away just as fast as it came. I startet the update again like 5 times and then my download continued. I did run the command with and without the -dir parameter and without the ".exe" I don't know if it had any effect. Try it. Try one of these:

c:\srcds\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf
c:\srcds\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf
c:\srcds\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir c:\srcds (use another folder. This gets a bit messy)
c:\srcds\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf -dir c:\srcds

Thanks for the reply & yes i just tried your suggestion with the following line.
This is on a fresh install of XP-pro & its had all its updates.
This is the only thing to have been installed on this rigg after running windows update.

Also as far as i know as long as the batch file resides in the same folder as the executable it doesn't require you to have the full directory path. IE "c:\foldername" as its already in this folder
Im pretty sure you only need the full path when the batch file is sitting somewhere else in the system & needs to be told where the exe is located.

Heres the line.
hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir C:\temp\TF2
time/t
@pause

Heres the response.

C:\TEMP\Valve>hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir c:\temp\TF2
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Cannot open blob archive file: CMultiFieldBlob(mem-mapped file): File does not exist and failed to create new file

C:\TEMP\Valve>time/t
05:37 AM
Press any key to continue . . .

It also creates a file after each attempt to run the exe.
Heres the last file name.
Valve_2007_9_19T10_27_53C484.mdmp

I have also started a topic on the steam forums, i hope its ok to post a link if not feel free to remove it.

Why are you trying to install into the Temp folder?

that wont work..

Install it in a folder like c:\SRCDS and update 3 times (YES 3!!), I had to update 3 times on 3 different servers before it worked, the srcds.exe will be in C:\SRCDS\orangebox\ folder when the install is complete.
AS LONG AS SRCDS.EXE IS NOT THERE KEEP RUNNING THE UPDATER!!

It really makes no difference what the folders name is. The only reason i used a temp folder was because this was a clean install of windows.
If it had worked i would have uploaded that whole temp folder to the server.

I was running into the same error. Try this and see if it works.

In my case, my command line was:

D:\Valve\HLServer\HLDSUPDATETOOL.EXE -command update -game "tf" -dir "D:\Valve\TF2_Server_1"

I was getting the same error.

I went into "d:\valve\" and created the TF2_Server_1 directory manually.

Reran the update, this time it gave me some...
Updating TF2... blah blah blah... resource not found
and did it a few time then started to update the game files.

So far it appears to be working. It's a ghetto fix, but if it works who cares, right? LOL.

***Edit*** By the way, if the connection 'drops', just run the update command again; it'll work. I don't know wtf is up with the update tool, but it's being a... tool I guess.

Yup thats it, worked like a charm, you are correct it does drop the connection after about 4 mins or so & you have to restart it. Other then that Problem solved. Thanks for the input, im sure it will help others as well.

Well, I have gotten to the point where the items should download, however I get the message no installation record found at c:\tf2ds\orangebox and there is no folder structure being created in my \orangebox folder. Is this normal? Should no activity be happening on the command prompt?

It can stay at that line for as much as 5 minutes before it continues, just be patient, valve content servers are under a LOT of stress and TF2 is much bigger than the rest of the gameservers.

Having it 'stall' multiple times is normal. At least normal for me last night! I was even getting client session rejected errors and couldn't continue my update. In the end, it all eventually came through and I got to run a smooth 24-man server.
Although the tick rate never went about 60... Never went below 60 either so I guess that's a good thing! I run my own CS:S server sometimes and I know I know what I'm doing; must be a beta tf2 thing or I just haven't found an article explaining what needs to be done differently.
