The usual common question "i get nothing on my external address"
#1
I realize this is an extremely common thread, but i've been sitting infront of this console and cfg file for 2 hours, and i still can' get even a hint of a CS:S server on my external ip address.

I can connect perfectly fin on my internal IP address (192.168.1.115) but when i try to get anything on my external IP address (69.244.98.197) nothing want to show up

before you ask:
i am not running a firewall, hardware or software.

sv_lan 0 // it's set to 0

DMZ is open to the servers IP address as well as being port forwarded

when i type the "ip" command into the command line it comes up with "69.244.98.197:27015"

when I typer the "sv_lan" command it spits out this
" "sv_lan" = "0"
- Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no non-class C address ) "

Which is the real thing the is bothering me...

Is there anything specific that I have to add to the server.cfg file? is there anything that I have to add to the startup line?

no the server should work "out of the box", so it's a router problem if it still doesn't work.
what bothers me is that it says your ip parameter is set to 69.244.98.197:27015, it should be 192.168.1.115

OK I went into my server.cfg and added the IP line to the 192.168.1.115:27015, but nothing changed.

I went into my router and made sure that DMZ was setup to 192.168.1.115 and that the address of the computer is 192.168.1.115.

I forwarded the ports to the same address.

I made them exceptions in the disabled windows firewall.

When I load up the server it says connection to the steam servers successful, but it doesnt show up on the main list, nor can I connect to it through my reglar machine attempting to connect to my external address.

And even after all that it still doesnt have a heartbeat, autentication, etc. even though sv_lan 0 is is executed nothing changes

I have a computer that the server will run on, but that computer is the computer that I play on and it doesnt have enough resources to host and play. I really dont understand what the problem is.

Also my friend told me that I should put the ethernet cable of the computer that I'm tryign to make the server to the first port on my router, is this true? would thais actually make a difference?

I know you've already pretty much eliminated the router but I know for a fact that some routers are just plain ol' steam-haters.
Could you please connect your server directly to the internet and see if that works?
If that fails please include your start-up switches for SRCDS.

This problem really doesnt matter anymore... my friends and clan mates decided to pool our money and get ourselves a hosted server. We have a Gungame server up 10 players 100 tick IP: 69.12.96.140:27015 if anyone wants to join us playing sometime, good luck and happy gaming Big Grin

Why are you trying to connect to your server using your external IP? I mean, if you can connect to it from the inside of your network there is no need (and it probably doesn't work) to connect using your external IP :S
