2000 latency

Hi I can't connect to our server. My brother is hosting it and i can't connect when i try it has 2000 latency! Please help.

This could be a firewall issue. Ensure your brother's computer has port 27015 TCP and UDP ports open. You can access the Windows in-built firewall settings from the control panel.

2000 latency usually just means that your server is not responding. I don't think you need to open ports when your on your internal network do you?

No you don't.

192.168.*.* is a private network (LAN). Most applications require you to open the ports on your router even if it's on a private network.

Make sure you're not running any type of firewall or antivirus. Vista and Windows 7 have a tricky network config that will block connections if they aren't set to home connections.
